Free school meals are offered to children of families who are in receipt of:
- Income Support
- Job Seekers Allowance (Income based)
- Support under par t VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
- Income related Employment Support Allowance
Child Tax Credit and are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and your annual income, as assessed by the Inland Revenue, does not exceed £16,190 (April 10 figure).
The Government does not allow us to recognise any other benefit other than those mentioned above.

or simply ring your local Area Education Office with details of your name, date of birth and National Insurance number and an immediate on-line decision can be given. (see contacts tab below for phone numbers)
You do not need to re-apply annually, your children will continue to receive free school meals unless you cease to be entitled, and the Council will let you know should that arise.
