PE

Our Pe curriculum aims to get children excited about exercise. We want our students to have the desire and motivation to continue with whatever sports they encounter from EYFS to Year 6.

We believe that children should have a broad, relevant, and balanced program of Physical Education. Our children are developing the competency to excel in a broad range of physical activities and are active for a sustained period of time. We aim to expose children to a wide variety of sports and activities in the hope that they will develop an overall love for leading an active lifestyle and potentially find things that they can pursue, engage with and enjoy in the future.

We want our students to have the knowledge that Physical Education is good for them and can help prolong and enhance their lives, they are aware that physical education is part of health education. Our children are aware of the importance of movement and realise the relationship between good physical health and good mental health is well proven. We find a way to challenge everyone in Physical Education, we focus not only on the active side but also on the emotional side. We want our children to be good sportspeople and develop their personal skills of perseverance and resilience.

Physical activity at Copp will include scheduled PE instruction, including gymnastics, games, dance, athletics, swimming lessons in KS2, and outdoor and adventurous activities from EYFS to Y6.  It will also include other forms of scheduled physical activity: movement activities within the regular classroom, movement activities in other school environments, as well as organized sports or games. Physical activity does not have to take place in the hall.

We provide a range of extra-curricular activities. These clubs run before school, at lunchtime and after-school and clubs are available from EYFS to Year 6. These encourage children to further develop their skills in a range of activities. The school sends details of the current club activities to parents at the beginning of each half-term. The school also plays regular fixtures against other local schools. This introduces a competitive element to team games and allows the children to put into practice the skills that they have developed in their lessons. These opportunities foster a sense of team spirit and cooperation amongst our children.
