Spirituality
As a Church school, spirituality lies at the heart of who we are and shapes the way we learn, live and grow together as a community. Our school vision, “Let us love, not in word, but in truth and action” (1 John 3:18), guides us to nurture children who not only understand kindness and compassion but who actively live these values in their daily lives. Spiritual development is therefore woven through the fabric of our school, both in the everyday experiences of the children and through carefully planned opportunities for reflection.
Throughout the school day, children are encouraged to notice the world around them, to ask questions, to reflect on their feelings and the feelings of others, and to recognise moments of awe, wonder and gratitude. Through collective worship, conversations in the classroom, acts of kindness and the relationships we build with one another, we help children explore what it means to live well with themselves, with others, with the world and with God.
To support this further, our school provides both indoor and outdoor spaces where children can pause and reflect. Our outdoor spiritual area offers a calm environment where pupils can experience stillness, appreciate nature and take time to think and pray. Being in the natural world encourages children to develop a sense of awe and wonder in God’s creation and provides opportunities for quiet reflection away from the busyness of the classroom.
In addition to these daily opportunities, we intentionally create dedicated space for deeper reflection at the beginning of each half term. During the first week back, our boardroom is transformed into a calm and welcoming spiritual area. Here, children are invited to pause from the busyness of the school day and engage in activities designed to help them think, wonder, reflect and be still. Through quiet reflection, prayer, creative responses and thoughtful questions, children are able to explore themes linked to God, the teachings of Jesus and our Christian vision.
This space allows children to consider big questions about life, faith, relationships and the world around them. It encourages them to listen to their inner thoughts, respect the perspectives of others and grow in understanding of their place within God’s creation. By providing both daily experiences and intentional moments of stillness, indoors and outdoors, we seek to nurture spiritual awareness that supports our children to live out our vision: loving others not only through words, but through truth and action.
