Welcome to Year 2
Firstly I would like to begin by welcoming you to Year 2. It has been very strange not teaching formally for so long but I am sure the children (and you!) are now ready for the new school year! Our topic for Autumn 1 is “Wonderful World!”.
Class Teacher: Miss S. Pixton
Teaching Assistant: Mrs S. Mason
PPA Teaching: Mrs D. Taylor
*We are always looking for parent / grandparent volunteers to help with reading and classroom jobs, even a couple of hours a week is a huge help, with the promise of tea, coffee and biscuits! Please contact email@example.com if you are interested in helping us in class.*
This year we will be studying the following five topics:
Autumn 1: Wonderful World!
Autumn 2: Once Upon a Time
Spring 1: A Toy's Story
Spring 2: Wind in the Willows
Summer: Up, Up and Away!
Maths and English Targets
The Year 2 children have maths and English targets (which are at the back of their relevant books).
The children will receive English and Maths homework every week. I would ask that the children attempt the homework independently but please support your child if needed. As well as this, I do ask that you read regularly with your child. Even if they have read the book, it is good practice to re-read the book so your child becomes more confident and fluent.
Reading Books / Library Books
Each child will be given some school books to bring home to read. Please keep these books at home until they are complete and only retrun them on book change days (Tuesday and Friday).
Reading and Reflection Areas:
We have a dedicated reading area in class. The reading area has a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction books. The children will also use the library in school and may take a library book home each week.
We have a reflection area where the children are allowed to spend time reflecting upon anything that has happened in class or at home that week.
The children will be doing PE twice a week (on Tuesdays and Thursdays). Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit (long black or navy joggers, plain white/school t-shirt, trainers and their school jumper/cardigan). For this half term, our PE slots are indoors.
The children will need a labelled water bottle (that they will take home every night), hand sanitiser and tissues (that will be left at school).
In Key Stage 1 the children receive free fruit as a mid-morning snack and will be encouraged to try everything.
If your child wishes to have milk please visit the website www.coolmilk.com and register. Cool Milk will then add your child to the list, ready for the following week.
I would again like to thank you in advance for all your support this year and if you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me on ClassDojo.
Thank you for visiting our class page!
