Maths and English Targets
The Year 1 children have maths and English targets (which are at the back of their relevant books).
The children will receive English and Maths homework every week. I would ask that the children attempt the homework independently but please support your child if needed. As well as this, I do ask that you read regularly with your child. Even if they have read the book, it is good practice to re-read the book so your child becomes more confident and fluent.
Reading Books / Library Books
Each child will have a reading book that is taken home to read and one that is left in school to read to myself, Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Mason. Please only bring books back on a Tuesday or Friday. We will not be sending reading diaries home, instead we ask that you comment on your childs dojo portfolio to let us know what they have read, how they did and what they struggled with.
Reading, Writing, Reflection and Design Areas:
We have a dedicated reading area in class. The reading area has a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction books. The children will also use the library in school and may take a library book home each week.
There is a writing area for two children to work at for extra work on things such as sentence structure, handwriting and SPAG.
We have a reflection area where the children are allowed to spend time reflecting upon anything that has happened in class or at home that week.
We have also recently added an art and design table for the children to use to sketch, paint and build 3D structures.
Before and After School
At the beginning of the school day, before registration (8.30 – 8.55) the children will have different maths, reading and writing activities to complete throughout the year.
At the end of each school day (3.15 pm) the children will wait in the classroom until a parent or carer is there to pick them up.
The children will be doing PE twice a week (on Tuesdays and Fridays). Please ensure that your child comes to school in their PE kit (white t-shirt, shorts, plain tracksuit bottoms/leggings, pumps and trainers) and all clearly labelled.
The children may also bring in their own water bottles from in from home, but please make sure that they are labelled also, these will be sent home at the end of the day to be cleaned.
In Key Stage 1 the children receive free fruit as a mid-morning snack and will be encouraged to try everything.
If your child wishes to have milk please visit the website www.coolmilk.com and register. Cool Milk will then add your child to the list, ready for the following week.
I would again like to thank you in advance for all your support this year and if you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me on ClassDojo.
Thank you for visiting our class page!
